A tree needs a permit at 30 cm in Toronto, 20 cm in Vaughan and Markham, and 15 cm in Richmond Hill. Markham measures the trunk at a different height than everyone else and caps your grass 5 cm lower. Cross Yonge Street in Thornhill and the rules change under your feet. Knowing which set applies to your address is most of the job, and it happens before the quote.
